CLINTON: I will put a price tag. My price tag is about $100 billion a year. And again, paid for. And what I have said is I will not throw us further into debt. I believe I can get the money that I need by taxing the wealthy, by closing loopholes, the things that we are way overdue for doing.
And I think once I'm in the White House we will have enough political capital to be able to do that.
But I am conscious of the fact that we have to also be very clear, especially with young people, about what kind of government is going to do what for them and what it will cost.
This was so patronizing on Clinton's part - I think she really made a mistake here by assuming that "Young people" haven't looked closely enough at Sander's plans and that they aren't paying attention. As a Generation X supporter, I believe this is exactly why people are finding her tone insulting. Who wants to be spoken to like this? NO ONE.
We have spent billions on two wars, bailing out the big banks and spend more than any other industrialized nation on health care with worse outcomes.
We have a generation that cannot afford higher education and will come out with more debt than any other generation before them.
They don't know if Social Security will be there for them when they have paid into the system for years to support Baby Boomers and the generations before them and she talks about how will we pay for things that will benefit THEM?
NO really, NOW we worry about how to pay for things to benefit the generations that are struggling? As the middle class disappears and as the gap in wealth grows ever wider, she tells "young people" they have no idea what these programs will cost or how we will pay for them?
Have they not paid enough by seeing their parents lose their homes and their retirements? Have they not paid enough Senator Clinton by seeing their parents lose their jobs and have to move back in with THEIR parents? Have they not lived through the “great” recession and seen what poor economic decisions have done to wreck their futures because this Country has failed to invest in THEIR future?
When is it going to be time when we stop funneling all the money upwards? When will it be time when they get the hand up and the bail out? When do we get to even the playing field for them?
You ask if they know what things cost?
They know.
