I imagine all of us here hope we have a Democrat in the White House in January, because the alternative is completely unthinkable.
That’s why I’ve been trying to shine a light on Hillary Clinton’s troubling record. Not out of bitterness, as some have suggested, but out of love and concern for my country. She simply has a record that makes her not only the kind of candidate I don’t want to support, but a very vulnerable candidate.
Yes, of course she’s winning right now. She has all the resources behind her, including every corporate interest, every Wall St criminal, the entire rusting hulk of the Democratic establishment, despicable assholes like David Brock who used to be reviled here, and compliant media outlets ready to spin her narrative while imposing a virtual blackout on Sanders. And, hey, a lot of people like her.
Well, not a lot of people.
Because, holy shit, I hadn’t noticed the latest CNN/ORC poll that came out on Tuesday. LOOK AT THOSE NUMBERS! Add Sanders’ positives to her negatives and you have a 37-point gap between the two.
I never write LOL but I have to make an exception. Because, seriously. LOL. When have you ever in your life seen a 37-point favorability gap between two candidates?
General election? Bernie Sanders, who is the only candidate in either party with an approval rating over 50%, is twice as strong as Clinton against Trump, has an astonishing 18-point advantage compared to Clinton against Cruz, and an 11-point advantage compared to Clinton against Rubio. Sanders simply crushes all three. CNN: “Sanders performs better than Clinton in each match-up among men, younger voters, and independents.”
Hillary, meanwhile, loses to Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz.
Hillary loses to Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz.
You know them, they’re the two rabid morons who get mocked on the front page every day because they are rabid morons. And she could lose to them.
And this is before the brutal campaign to come, when everything the RNC has been planning to unleash against her comes out, while the media remind voters that she is under investigation and that an aide has been granted immunity. This is not what I want to have happen. It’s just inevitable.
Please, put on your 538 hat and tell us that the polls are meaningless at this point, as Carl Beijer points out more in the cross tabs that is not at all meaningless:
Of the Democrats who say that they wouldn't support Clinton, 60% say that they definitely wouldn't, versus about 40% who only say that they probably wouldn't. The opposition to Sanders is much softer: only a quarter of those voters say that they definitely wouldn't vote for him. So while crossover appeal may account for some fraction of Sanders' advantage in the general election, it also appears that Clinton suffers from a significant amount of hardened opposition among Democrats who will never vote for her. That hardened opposition is a remarkable 7.6% of Democrats who will definitely never vote for Hillary.
And we’re the “fucking morons?” Let’s just hope Mitt and his pals can’t knock Trump out of the race.
At the same time, primary voters are seeing Sanders as much more electable than they did just a couple of months ago:
A greater percentage of Democratic registered voters view the Vermont senator as likable, honest, competent and compassionate than they did just two months ago, according to a new Associated Press-GfK poll. Seventy-two percent now believe he could win the general election, a 21 percentage point increase from the last time the survey was conducted in December.
I’m leaving this here as a resource for Bernie supporters. I won’t be around to chat.
H/t to my friend Kristen who designed this beautiful chart. You can download it as a pdf from Scribd or get the jpg here.
Peace.

Hey, sorry about the snarky title. It was meant to be in response to the recent edict, that’s all.
