Wait A Minute Kos

Sorry Kos…..I think you missed it here.  Yes, this is some more of Obama’s 11th Dimensional Chess.  This is really a no-lose scenario for us.  As akicks said in a comment in the article announcing Garlands nomination:

I am baffled by the idea that this nomination let’s the GOP off the hook. The Republicans are screwed by this nomination. Hard. Let’s look at how this could play out: 1. Garland doesn’t get a hearing. Dems have the biggest hammer they have had in years. Nearly every center independent and what’s left of moderate Republicans either don’t vote or vote Hillary. The Senate is a real possibility along with significant gains in the House. 2. Garland gets a hearing but is not confirmed. Same scenario as above but perhaps with less cowbell. However, the radical right throws a fit because the “RINOs” capitulated. That wedge that is already dividing the right gets pounded deeper. 3. Republican leadership backs down completely and he is confirmed. The radical right loses its ever-loving mind. If this scenario happens I see a 95% chance between this “betrayal” and Trumpism that the Republican party fractures in a way that may not be repairable. The only scenario I can think of that doesn’t hurt Republicans hard is if some massive skeleton is found in Garland’s closet. Other than that, the worst that could happen is he gets confirmed and decides the way I would want him to 95% of the time. Yes, that 5% could suck hard. But I’ll take it if this damages Republicans for the foreseeable future as much as I think it will.

Also, this notion that Garland is somehow CONSERVATIVE???  He appears to be somewhere between Ginsburg and Kagan on the ideological purity scale.  If he happens to be another Ginsburg, I will gladly take replacing Scalia with another Ginsburg or even slightly more conservative version of Ginsburg every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

This is a nomination we need to all get behind…….just like getting behind Hillary as the nominee.

Remember Kos, we have bigger fish to fry here.  If confirmed, Garland gives us the Supreme Court. If not confirmed, once Hillary is elected, we can get a “more” liberal and younger justice…...provided we control the Senate.  It’s all about the Supreme Court and getting Hillary elected as you stated here.  Garland is the nominee to maximize this strategy.

Let’s keep our eyes on the ball here…….m’kay?

‘Nuff said.

UPDATE:  Just spitballing here…….if Garland is not confirmed and Hillary is elected with a Democratic Senate, wouldn’t Garland make a great replacement for a retiring Kennedy, Breyer or RBG?  Just a thought.

Personal Note:  Thanks for all the Recs and getting me on the Rec List.  This is a first for me.  Thanks again to all those who read my article and rec’d it.
