All eyes are on the great state of NY as the Democratic Presidential primary heats up. Brooklyn Bernie is closing in on Hillary with the delegate gap, has outraised Hillary for each of the last three months and is on a winning streak, having taken 8 of the last nine contests. Nothing says momentum more than 8 wins in a row and 3 months of big fundraising numbers.
And to make matters worse for Hillary, Bill Clinton’s recent controversial remarks in which he not only attacked Black Lives Matter but defended Hillary’s use of the racist term SuperPredator, the Clinton administration’s Mass Incarceration, and their Reaganesque Welfare Reform (that Bernie voted against) have, well let’s just say, not gone over so well.

Fracking is a top issue for NYers having led the fight to ban it in their state. Hillary is for “safe and responsible” fracking. Bernie opposes fracking. Certainly other issues on the top of voters’ lists are jobs, income inequality, the economy and health care. The upcoming Brooklyn April 14th debate will help to draw the distinct differences between the two candidates on these issues.
If Hillary does not win NY, the state that she represented as Senator for 8 years, as Chris Matthews said, “she will be on her backside.” It will be a referendum against the core message of Hillary’s campaign: She can’t get the job done.
The world will be watching as the son of a Jewish Polish immigrant who was born and raised in Brooklyn and the former Goldwater girl from Illinois take it to the streets. Bernie was born and raised Midwood, Brooklyn in a rent controlled apartment building, unit 2C. Midtown was home to many Jewish immigrants.
