Bernie Sanders is making history. His is the only campaign ever to explicitly reject Big Money (they said he was doomed). He came from 60 points behind with all the hell-hounds the establishment could muster nipping at his heels to overtake one of the most powerful people in the world.
Against all odds, with the corporate media alternately ignoring or trashing him (socialist! socialist! socialist!), Bernie has won the heart of America. And he's done it without pandering or changing his long held views or positions in a bid to make himself more popular. He's done it all honestly and straightforwardly by dint of hard work over time, and by being his awesome and honest self.
Only crowd-funded presidential campaign in modern political history Taking on the billionaire class and the entire establishment and winning 7 million individual donations averaging $27 Out-raising the billionaires month after month Draws record breaking crowds virtually everywhere he goes Largest political rallies in history A candidate with a reformist agenda who is beholden to, and committed to, no one but the American people No corporate ties He calls to us to stand up and fight back 27,000 rally for Bernie in NYC!Bernie Sanders has run the most amazing campaign in modern political history. This is a grassroots campaign the likes of which we've never seen before. People throng to see Bernie by the tens of thousands. When you see him and hear what he has to say, you can't help but love him. People respond to Bernie's authenticity, honesty, understanding and vision. And that his loyalties are to the people not the machine.
Bernie sees things clearly and speaks clearly about them. He brings a profound level of understanding to the table. And he is committed to doing the right thing as a general principle. I can't imagine how we could ask for anything more in a president. His vision is the one we need.
There's one other thing: courage. Bernie is a liberal lion with a heart as big as humankind. He is history's answer to the present moment. History finally caught up with Bernie, and he was there just being himself.
Just when we needed someone to stand up to the billionaires and the corruption that has run rampant through our government, there he was. Such good luck! It's in many ways beyond uncanny. The Bernie phenomena has taken on a life of its own, one greater than its parts. Zeitgeist maybe is the word I'm looking for. Or kismet. Or karma. It looks like people were ready for a political revolution. And here Bernie was...all along.
They keep pronouncing him dead but he keeps coming back!
There's something happening here but you don't know what it is, do you mister Jones?
I remember when Bernie announced his candidacy. He spoke briefly but substantively, answered a few questions, then said he had to get back to work. That's Bernie. There's no bullshit with this guy.

Bernie Sanders’ climate consistency: Why he, not Hillary Clinton, should be the choice of people who care about global warming BY BILL MCKIBBEN / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS / Wednesday, April 13, 2016Hillary Clinton’s struggle is with time, and on so many fronts: She’s haunted by her support for the Iraq War when it was popular, by her support for jailing “superpredators” when that was popular, by her support for free-trade agreements or her opposition to gay marriage when that polled well. No small share of her campaign has been devoted to explaining her “evolutions.”
But in recent days, the problem has been clearest in regard to energy and climate, thrown into sharp relief by young people who have questioned her about the fossil fuel money that’s always lubricated her campaigns. She’s reacted harshly, telling a young Greenpeace campaigner that she’s “sick” of the “lying,” and then laughing at a college student in Philadelphia who questioned her about ties to fracking lobbyists, telling her to “go read the articles.” In more-sorrowful-than-angry mode she told “Meet the Press” that, “I feel sorry sometimes for the young people who believe this; they don’t do their own research.”
Let’s excuse the patronizing tone: Presidential campaigns are long and tiring, and it must be galling to be losing young voters, primary after primary, by record numbers.
Because Clinton’s real problem is precisely that young people have done their research. For months now, they’ve been bird-dogging all the presidential campaigns, lining up along the rope lines with those gosh-darned smartphones, and trying to move the conversation.
People want to compare resumes and argue probabilities or policies or political mechanics or polls or wild-assed metrics, but Bernie has vision and that's more important than anything. Nothing is more important than knowing where you need to go. Unsustainable means just that. Bernie lays it out beautifully, thoughtfully and with great heart. He sees exactly where we need to go: to a clean energy and more humane and democratic future.Bernie is the natural born, hard-earned and well-deserved visionary leader for this moment.
Some bullet points from Bernie's announcement (from the above video):
Economic justice Climate change science taken seriously Move aggressively to renewable green energy Jobs and jobs at a living wage Free public universities This is not the Redsocks vs the Yankees Major corporations dodge their taxes Corporate responsibilities are not to ship jobs to China The role of money in politics has to be addressed Koch brothers and other billionaire families prepared to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to buy the candidates of their choice Universal single payer healthcare as a human right Promises to fund his campaign with small donors only (they said it couldn't be done) I was right about Iraq I'm leading against the TPP and led the effort against the Keystone pipeline We're in this race to win I have the most unusual political history in congress [tru dat] We have to stand together [tru dat too, also, aussi, tambien]He covered a lot of ground right there. There is nothing one dimensional about Bernie. This guy don't play.
People fall in love with Bernie, and for good reasons. What's not to love? He's got heart. He's real. It's not just that he's a good guy. It's that he is wise, knowledgeable, brilliant and steady. And that he is a person of vision who is full of human understanding – which is oddly enough a fairly rare thing but something many people recognize – AND he is a good guy, which is just gravy. But it sure feels good to feel this good about a candidate.
I'll say it again.
