Am I reading this right? A diary purporting to have concern about voter participation that does not mention the caucus system?
I really can’t take seriously any argument that feigns concern over “voter participation” that can not work up the energy to even mention the word “caucus.”
There are many respectable arguments for and against open or closed primaries. Daily Kos, both management and membership, has long been in favor of closed primaries (see Lieberman, Joe in 2006). But certainly we can have a reasonable discussion about the issue.
But if your argument for open primaries is limited to “voter participation,” then you really need to focus on caucuses first, which are the most egregious voter suppression methodology we currently have.
If you can’t work up the energy to even write the word “caucus” in your diatribe about voter participation, I question whether you really actually care about voter participation.
