— People For Bernie (@People4Bernie) May 3, 2016 Bernie wins Vigo County, a Bellwether for National Races!TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- If you want to know who the next president of the United States will be, just ask the voters of Vigo County.
Vigo voters have correctly voted for the winning presidential candidate in 29 out of the last 31 elections.
The county is considered a bellwether for national races. Even though it typically leans Democrat, a Republican mayor and prosecutor have just been elected to their third terms in office.
According to Politico, Vigo County voted for the losing candidate only twice since 1888. In 1908, it went for William Jennings Bryan instead of William Howard Taft. Then, in 1952, it voted for Adlai Stevenson instead of Dwight Eisenhower.www.theindychannel.com/...

— Sara Cohen (@saracohennyc) May 3, 2016 Email from Bernie:Moments ago the news networks declared us the winner of yet another state - our 18th of the primary season: Indiana.
For the past several weeks, the corporate media has counted us out of this election. The political and financial establishment of this country have been vocal in their desire for us to go away. To get in line.
Today, the voters had another idea.
Every victory we earn is extraordinarily important for our political revolution. Not just because of the delegates we earn, but because each win and all the work that goes into that effort sends an unmistakable message to the establishment of this country that we will never stop fighting for the values we share. I say we keep fighting. Are you with me?
The next states up are West Virginia, Kentucky and Oregon. They are all places we have a chance to do very well. I am in this fight through the Democratic convention. Thank you for standing with me.
In solidarity,
Bernie Sanders

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders issued the following statement on Tuesday after The Associated Press projected that he won the Indiana primary:
“I want to thank the people of Indiana for the great upset victory that they gave us tonight. This is the 18th state that we have won, and we expect more victories in the weeks to come.
“The Clinton campaign thinks this campaign is over. They’re wrong. Maybe it’s over for the insiders and the party establishment, but the voters in Indiana had a different idea. The campaign wasn’t over for them. It isn’t over for the voters in West Virginia. It isn’t over for Democrats in Oregon, New Jersey and Kentucky. It isn’t over for voters in California and all the other states with contests still to come.
“We understand that we have an uphill climb to victory but we have been fighting uphill from the first day of this campaign. We are in this campaign to win and we’re going to fight until the last vote is cast. There is nothing I would like more than to take on and defeat Donald Trump, someone who must never become president of this country.
“The voters in the remaining contests deserve a chance to compare my record and Hillary Clinton’s record on creating jobs, raising the minimum wage, war and peace, the need for health care for all, breaking up big banks, combating climate change and other critical issues. To help voters make the best-informed choice possible, I hope that Secretary Clinton will agree to a date and place for a debate in California.”
