The triumph of democracy is what I'm hoping for – and damned if we don't have a shot at it.
The foes of progress always think that when they win a battle, they've won the war. They fail to account for the fact that their opposition only grows stronger.
Was the 60s revolution over when they massacred students at Kent State and then Jackson State?
For a while that seemed to be the case, but as we all know, the 60s dreamed on. Many were cowed but a lot of people were, and continue to be, radicalized by those events. That was the establishment showing its true colors. Despite the violence and the terror, the vision of a better world, much tarnished, never faded.
And if you don't know it by now, the hippies were right.
The powers that be thought Occupy was over when they smashed it, once again using state violence – but like the 60s, Occupy dreamed on.
We're all back now, along with millions of others, saying we still believe in a better world than the one being shoved down our throats by the billionaire class. We still believe we can all do better.
We still have a dream.
We are sick of the hatred and violence. We are sick of the greed and corruption. We demand peace and progress. No excuses.
Power to the people.
We demand government of, by and for the people.
This time the numbers are on our side.
The state of the revolution is strong.
