MSNBC just reported this as breaking news out of Afghanistan. A drone strike targeting Mullah Akhtar Mansour was carried out. Jim Miklaszewski was saying this would be considered a major success for President Obama if it is confirmed.

The strike took place at about 6 a.m. EDT, the official said, which would have placed it late on Friday night in the target area. Multiple U.S. drones targeted the men as they rode in a vehicle in a remote area in Pakistan along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, southwest of the town of Ahmad WalAccording to the very short article, the report comes from a U.S. Official speaking on the condition of anonymity. And one other combatant was also likely killed.

CNN — A U.S. official who spoke with CNN said the strike was authorized by President Obama.
