President Obama has a Long Talk with Bernie, Sanders to 'Reassess' Candidacy Wednesday

It is now being reported that Sanders took a call from President Obama on Sunday, stopping his press bus and heading out of earshot of press and aides to speak.

The Vermont senator took the president's call on the side of the road in the financial district in San Francisco, at around 2:30 p.m. ET. Atwood said that as the press bus drove by, Sanders could be seen standing on Market Street, legal pad in hand, as he talked on a cell phone.

Sanders, appropriately, did not discuss the private discussion with the President, but it seems incredibly unlikely that they were discussing anything other than Presidential politics.

With the news breaking that President Obama is preparing to endorse Hillary (perhaps as soon as this week) it is a good bet that President Obama was informing Sanders of his plans to endorse and to help him figure out a graceful way to exit the race and unite the party.

On top of all this, news broke earlier today that Sanders plans to return home to Vermont on Wednesday to ‘assess’ his path forward after Clinton clinches the nomination Tuesday evening.

All things together, it looks like the party is coming together behind our nominee. President Obama is giving Sanders help in landing the plane rather than crashing it in Philadelphia.

Matt Yglesias had this to say (though given he doesn't even give any sources or reasoning, so take it with a Dead Sea’s worth of salt)

Bernie’s going to concede on Friday.
