I’m on the verge of tears. On the verge of tears because now is the time. In the last few hours the world changed.
x YouTube VideoIt changed for the better. It changed for the better because now, I at 13 years old can easily say that one day I could be President of the United States.
Eight years ago to the day, Hillary Clinton said after conceding to Barack Obama that “Every moment wasted looking back, keeps us from moving forward.”
x YouTube VideoThose of us who supported Hillary Clinton, who supported more than just her. The basic rights of humans, of women, can now say that we have safely moved forward.
There are no limits. That ceiling which eight years ago had 18 million cracks in it, has finally, at long last been shattered.
And the pieces of broken glass that shower from above do not hurt us. They make us stronger.
What brings on a new rush of catharsis, serendipity and joy, is the fact that Hillary actually achieved that goal. She didn’t look back. She moved forward.
And eight years later, here we are. History has been made. Now all we have to do is carry it to Philadelphia and make it official.
For all supporters of Clinton, even those who don’t support her, should recognize how pivotal this is. How in the past 8 years, so much has changed. Gay marriage has been legalized. Back then, a man could not marry another man, a woman could not marry another woman.
But this moment in history, this moment that inspired me today, and lifted my spirits as I blasted music in my room, as I watched history happen, has showed how much has happened in just the beginning of the century.
This is a turning point. This century will take us far, if we choose to take it the right way.
This century will take us far if we choose to use its progressive opportunities.
Who knows? Because of this, I could one day be president of the United States, and nobody would be talking about it as an interesting thing because I’m female.
And no, the system isn’t rigged. Voters themselves cast ballots, and they chose their nominee. They chose a woman who has spent her life helping others. Helping women and children stand up and be strong.
She fought this while I waited holding up a sign outside a rally. While her own words rung through the speakers.
I watched it happen. With my own eyes. My own ears.
I watched it happen while she saw the excitement in my eyes at an event a couple weeks ago, and she looked, and she smiled at me.
It inspired me. It showed me that anything is possible. You just have to try.
I saw it happen. And as she said in her speech. It isn’t about her. It is about the millions of people who have fought for this. Fought for the future. She just took advantage of it.
All of us became a part of history. All of us who knocked on doors for Hillary. All of us who made those phone calls. All of us who saw Bernie’s potential in influencing Hillary. We all did it together.
