An update on my wife's health

If you are reading this, you are family, friends, or a member of a community in which either my wife Leaves on the Current and/or I am a participant.  It has been my practice, since my wife was first admitted to the hospital on an emergency basis because of a diagnosis of cancer, on January 27, 2013, to provide periodic updates because we know that we are both in the prayers and concerns of others.

Several months ago my wife’s multiple myeloma showed up again on a PET Scan, so she had to go back on to regular chemotherapy beyond the low maintenance dose she had been receiving.   Last week she had a follow-up check up, etc.  That included another PET scan.  What her oncologist told her after reviewing the scan had some good news.  It “looks good: and shows that the chemo “is definitely working!”

That was the good news.  The bad news is that she is chronically fatigued, yet has trouble sleeping through the night.  All food tastes at least slightly bitter, and often she has no appetite.  By the way, these do NOT count as “severe side effects.”  So the chemo will continue.

Again, we consider ourselves lucky that her disease, multiple myeloma, is treatable if not curable.  She is able to maintain a reasonably full schedule despite the effects of the chemotherapy.

We remain hopeful that the disease can again be knocked back into remission.

Again, as always, we appreciate all the prayers, concerns, holding in the light, and good wishes sent our way.

Thank you all.

Peace.
