The fact that Hillary’s ground game is focused, extremely competent, hard-working and ready to GOTV was plain with the opening of the Mason, Ohio office on Wednesday evening August 10th. This was one of seven offices “opening for business” Wednesday in Ohio.
[Note, for all of those fact-challenged media people making a big deal out of the fact that this office is in “deeply red” Mason and that this is daring for Hillary to have her office here, the 2012 Obama office was literally/factually/geographically right across the street.]
A day-by-day wall-size posting of GOTV schedules made them easy to access. Different color notes for different areas of Butler and Warren counties.Anyhow, the house was literally standing-room-only. In the room where I stood and sweated — the A/C was overwhelmed — I counted 35 people, including the Channel 12 CBS Local News crew and cameraman. And I was in the smaller of six rooms in this converted house on Mason’s Main Street. I could see more people outside on the porch and sidewalk unwilling or unable to brave the crowded rooms, so I’d take a guess of perhaps 100-125 people in attendance.
Simone, one of the Democratic Fellows, introduces Kristen Davis. Some were obviously there to see Kristen Davis, one of the stars of “Sex and the City” but most others were existing and new volunteers, there to sign up for phone-bank shifts, canvassing and all the other activities that GOTV requires.
More below the fold . . .
This was a combination party and call-to-arms. Tables with treats in one room, sign up sheets in another, a “Where is Hillary Today?” poster in another, a giant calendar of GOTV meetups dominating one entire wall in yet another room.
Dominick Lijoi, the West Chester (OH) Team Leader started things off, then turned the mic over to Kristen who talked for 10 minutes about her pride in working with Hillary and the threat Donnie presents, all to loud cheers and applause. The CBS news camera got it all (my phone, which was recording Kristen’s speech (complete with its Hillary sticker) is visible in one of his crowd shots that evening on the news. Then Caroline Pokrzywinski, our Hillary Field Organizer wrapped things up and Kristen went
outside to sign autographs and do selfies with anyone and everyone, while a steady rain fell.
Ohio for Hillary and Tim.The diversity as well as the size of the crowd was impressive. Lots of veterans of prior campaigns, and based on my chats, lots of newbies as well, the overriding theme being outright fear and rage at the danger Donnie presents to all of us.
Almost as popular for selfies was the full-size Hillary cut-out!
Yeah, had to get this one in too. Now 89 days and counting.Other take-aways:
Everything is Organized (as I expect Hillary would want it to be) and clear! Enthusiasm is huge! The house wasn’t just full to over-capacity, it was rocking. Lots of encouragement and lots of posted advice on how to talk to people when phone-banking Mix of ages, backgrounds, genuine diversity — what makes the USA great. I was greeted with a smile, helped with a name badge and chance to sign up (already on the volunteer list) and directed to where the treats were waiting (loved the double-layer chocolate cupcake!) Everyone was well-dressed, smiling, greeting old friends or making new ones. None of the sullen and threatening behavior you’d see from Donnie’s gang. Polls are showing Hillary with a narrow lead. Our job is to expand it to decisive levels. We will win!If you live in Warren or Butler Counties which include West Chester, Mason, Liberty Township, Sharonville and Middleton (Cincinnati and Hamilton County have their own office) and want to join in the fun and hard work of GOTV, contact Caroline at: cpokrzywinski@ohvictory2016.org
