GOP "Insiders" Aren't Just Abandoning Trump, They're Abandoning The Party

Yet another article about the pressure being applied by GOP officials in an effort to disconnect themselves and their party from Trump like rats leaving a sinking ship: www.huffingtonpost.com/… The problem is, these “insiders” fail to remember how they got to where they are.  Trump isn’t some bizarre random thing that happened to the Republican party.  He is the Republican party as it currently exists.  How else can they explain how it is that out of 17 candidates for the GOP nominee, Trump emerged at the top, handily crushing the others whenever the question was put to the voters — you know, those millions of people who they supposedly represent.  That didn’t happen by accident.  As the rhetoric has steadily ratcheted up, becoming more extreme with each passing year (especially during the Obama administration), the GOP has been more than happy to make political hay out of bigotry, hate, xenophobia, homophobia, etc.  Now they want to jump ship and say “That’s not us!”  Really?  Sorry, Republicans — you built the party into what it is today, and now you’ll have to accept the electoral product of your efforts.  We of the Left must be the ones to hold up the mirror, from the presidential race all the way down the ticket.
