This diary was posted recently in mockery of the one I wrote a few days ago.
Look, guys. I need you to understand how sincere I am.
I don’t support Bernie Sanders because I think it’s cool, or because I just want someone new, or some other reason Clinton supporters think people support Bernie that I don’t understand/can’t even guess.
A few months ago, I started researching who I was going to vote for. What I found made me very strongly support Bernie. I’ve written some stuff here about what some of those reasons are. I would love to discuss those reasons with you guys, but I’m not going to take the time to outline them here because I don’t think I’m going to get much of a specific response. Because, so far, from Hillary supporters, I haven’t.
That research, and those solid reasons, have been met with, from some people, mockery and nonspecific, non-policy-based retorts. All you guys who are voting for Hillary don’t really ever respond to the problems I have with her and her record, as well as her current policy proposals.
You call them “binders full of quotes” and relying on “Google,” etc. etc. Even mocking my age.
We are all people on this land, just human beings trying to live our lives best we can. Let us choose our leader with sincere and honest discussion about who will be the best for everyone.
Politics is no joke. It’s not a circus, it’s not snark. It’s the most deadly serious thing you can talk about. It’s what controls all of our lives, what makes the rules everyone has to live by. It’s what decides how much someone has to pay you, how the schools you send your kids to are, how you get taken care of when you’re sick, what happens to you when you break their laws, etc. etc. etc.
People will be able to lift themselves out of poverty, or stay trapped within it, based on what our politicians do.
I am honest as hell about my fear that the person, as I’ve discovered through my research, who has advocated for throwing us behind bars and letting the poor suffer (calling them “deadbeats”) is going to win, while the one who’s quite literally fought for us for decades will not.
I get that Hillary’s been getting hate from Republicans for years. But you’ve got to distinguish between me and them. I’m not hating Hillary just to hate her. I don’t care about her, and I don’t care about Bernie. I care about electing someone who means what they say. I care about getting someone to rule this country who is actually going to change it for the better. I care about having an honest, sincere, truthful, passionate, fighter-for-the-poor-sick-hungry-underserved-lower-and-middle-class of a candidate.
The last one I wrote was about 5 hugely important issues, the economy/economic inequality/welfare/crime/Iraq war, that Bernie was completely right about, and Hillary was dead wrong about.
Those positions, this history and present, MATTERS.
As does who the Democrats nominate. THAT’S why I’m passionate about Bernie. Because of the facts, not because I just want him, because, whatever, revolution. I’m trying to get the person in office who’s going to deeply change a tragically misled, misguided, and lied to country, that is actually an oligarchy, not a democracy. The few have controlled this place for too long (a fascinating article by the NYT on how religion played a part in the re-taking of power after FDR’s Revolution here) and it’s time to TAKE IT BACK.
I really enjoy reading the articles/diaries you guys post, and I really enjoy writing for you, and for whoever else may see my words. I hope that we can work together to make DK a place of pure substantive discussion, honest inquiry, factual diaries, and a healthy dose of humor.
Diaries like 5 Times Bernie Healed The Sick only work AGAINST that kind of discussion; and they’re only funny if they’re based in truth, which it was not. Just pure, made-up from nowhere snark. Hillary Clinton has serious issues in her record and her current policy proposals, as I have discovered through researching the facts; we must talk about them.
I will keep writing here.
I have so much more to say.
But I hope that — to all those who support Hillary — we can engage in meaningful, honest, concrete discussion about the FACTS.
And I hope that, to Bernie supporters, no matter if you get frustrated or irritated, you always, ALWAYS stick with the facts.
We don’t have to rely on anything else.
Thank you.
