"You've" been in uniform? You shoot at the enemy," he said at a statehouse press conference Friday, according to the Portland Press-Herald. "You try to identify the enemy and the enemy right now, the overwhelming majority of people coming in, are people of color or people of Hispanic origin.”

This morning my State Representative emailed me this.

We cannot afford two more years of his erratic behavior that keeps us from working on the issues that matter to Maine people. Democrats have been clear that the only remedy is resignation or removal from office. The governor has said that he will not resign. This morning, Speaker Mark Eves took the first step toward a special session to deal with this crisis.  Under the Maine Constitution, it is up to the Speaker to poll all House members on whether they agree to come in for a special session. Speaker Eves sent out an email asking, "Do you consent to coming in for a special session of the Legislature to take action regarding the Governor's conduct?" Members have until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 6, to respond.  For the Legislature to come in for a special session, a majority in both parties must agree to do so. We are encouraging the Senate to poll its members with the same question. It's clear that enough members of both parties in both chambers believe we must take action.  The people of Maine deserve an up-or-down vote by their elected lawmakers.
