this quote is from a post by aphra behn in this morning’s hnv, as part of a discussion with denise oliver velez about hillary’s comfort in black church setting.
it made me think. it confirmed for me that no matter what the setting, black church, rally, dnc convention, hillary’s core message is the same, and has been ever since i’ve been aware of her. i am an atheist, yet her words spoken in a religious setting came through loud and clear to me.
"do good for those less fortunate than i”.
8 words. they sum up my basic philosophy in a neat package that has many messy things inside.
furthermore, i believe it sums up the basic philosophy of most democrats. our economic views may vary wildly, some of us are pretty strong capitalists, others are staunch socialists. but the thing that glues the democratic party together is social justice, in many forms. without it, we fall apart. it is why i am a democrat, even though my color, gender and income class “says” i should be a republican.
social equality is the fight we’ve been fighting for a long time. we have come a LONG way, but we have a long way to go. hillary will guide us on the right path, and she will NOT stay throwed.
