Color me cynical but it seems to me the media only called out Trump as a LIAR after he duped them yesterday by promising a big press conference that never happened. From Huffington Post:
Journalists were left fuming. “We just got played. We just got played,” CNN’s John King admitted, shortly after Trump left the lectern, waving to a crowd of military veterans, some of whom had stood on stage to offer their support while the media waited, enraptured, for the candidate to talk. “It’s hard to imagine this as anything other than a political Rick Roll,” Jake Tapper noted, roughly 15 minutes into the spectacle, as several Medal of Honor recipients took the stage to endorse Trump. CNN, and then MSNBC and Fox News, eventually cut away as it dawned on their control rooms that they had been tricked.
Oh — the irony! Got played? Political Rick Roll? Trump has been playing voters with his lies for over a year while the media has danced around those same lies for just as long. The media has never had a problem calling Hillary a liar. But when it came to Trump they looked away ... until he flat-out lied to them, yesterday.
Back in May, as Bill Moyers noted in his article titled, Why Trump Can Lie and No One Seems To Care:
MSM — the mainstream media — just sit back and let Trump unleash his whoppers without any pushback, even as they criticize his manners and attitude.
But, yesterday, the MSM appeared to care a lot when they were duped by a Trump lie. Worse, the MSM twitter outrage focused more on the lie told to them about the presser than Trump lying about Hillary starting birtherism.
Even more ironic, the media claimed the phony press conference was a Trump trick for “free” air time. From CNN’s Jeremy Diamond:

And it’s been even more obvious after the primary. They run entire Trump stump speeches with virtually zero analysis of the words coming out of Trump’s mouth. Then they run a short clip of a Hillary speech followed by an all-day, hair-splitting analysis of her comments taken out of context.
Hypocrites indeed.
