So much to love about Senator Al Franken, a former SNL cast member, actor, comedian and former host of “Air America” who got tired of yelling at the government—and instead decided to run for office so he could create change from the inside out. And he is.
Last week Franken released a video via MoveOn.org, titled “The 3 Real Reasons Trump Got Into Politics.” He started with: Power
“Donald Trump’s role model is Vladimir Putin. In Russia, journalists who report on corruption are regularly murdered. Although, Trump, in his defense, has said, while he hates reporters, ‘I would never kill them.’ Which is the least stirring defense of freedom of the press I have ever heard.”
Next reason why Trump in is politics: Money
“This is a guy who says he’s worth $10 billion dollars and then doesn’t pay his bills. He’s even been sued by the lawyers who represented him—when he got sued for not paying other people. I’m not making that up. He didn’t pay the lawyers… (USA Today, June 9, 2016) You got it. Donald Trump is like a cartoon of a greedy person, for children, written by a child.”
Franken asks his viewers, “What about winning for the sake of winning?
“Well, that’s basically the message of Trump’s whole campaign. He says, ‘We will have so much winning, that you may get bored with winning.’ With Trump, winning is really about making other people lose. — making everybody who isn’t like him lose, lose, lose.”
The senator then asks: “And what about Hillary Clinton? Hillary’s been fighting to make things better for regular people for her entire adult life.” In 1969, Hillary Clinton said:
‘I get asked this quite often, ‘If you’re dissatisfied do you stay in a place?’ Well, if you didn’t care about it, you wouldn’t stay.”
Franken calls Hilary “the exact opposite of Donald Trump.
“Trump wants a giant tax cut for the rich. He wants to build a GIANT wall and get more people to cary GIANT guns. Hillary Clinton would make a great president. Donald Trump would be an-absolute-nightmare.”
Pointing to the audience, Franken urges them to volunteer with MoveOn.org and go door to door every weekend until the election. He says, “This is an all hands on deck moment. We need every second of your waking time from now until the polls close on Nov. 8th.” With that sly smile Franken adds:
“You can eat as you walk from door to door. I’ve done it. It’s good exercise. And take breaks to share this video...” (smiling)
