Kelly Ayotte made a deal with the Devil. And she just got burned.
The Republican Party isn’t really built to tolerate so-called “moderates” anymore. Especially Senators trying to squeak through an election in a fairly blue state by pretending to be moderates while at the same time beholden to the race-baiting corporate slush fund that calls itself the Republican Party.
Things tend to end badly for such types.
Kelly Ayotte thinks Donald Trump is a role model for children. And she made the stupid mistake of saying so out loud today:
New Hampshire GOP Sen. Kelly Ayotte said during a debate on Monday that she would "absolutely" point to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump as a role model for a child.
The first-term senator was asked by a moderator during the NECN debate: "Would you tell them to be like Donald Trump? Would you point to him as a role model?"
"I think that certainly there are many role models that we have, and I believe he can serve as president and so, absolutely. I would do that," she said at the New England College hosted debate in Henniker, New Hampshire. The same man who called a female reporter a “c*nt,” habitually calls women “pigs,” “slobs,” and “dogs,” and points and laughs at their weight problems and physical appearance. The same man who gins up hatred in his crowds and eggs on his supporters to beat up protesters (who just happen to be Black or Brown). The one who enjoys the full throated support of the Neo-Nazis and White supremacists. The one who wants to profile Muslims and send police door-to-door in the middle of the night to tear apart Hispanic and Latino families. The perpetual bankrupt who is under investigation in multiple states for ripping off people with his phony college scam. The one who brags about his ability to buy politicians.
The one who pays no Federal taxes, and calls veterans weak.
This is the man Senator Kelly Ayotte calls a role model for our kids? In what universe?
Apparently he’s a role model she doesn’t have the guts to endorse:
During Monday's debate, someone off-screen asked Ayotte: "If you think he can serve as president, why won't you endorse him?""Because I've had some disagreements with him," she said.
Weird to have a so-called “role model” for children who you won’t even endorse, Senator. Really weird.
Ayotte's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Maggie Hassan is running for Senate in New Hampshire against Kelly Ayotte. You can donate to her campaign here.
