20 years ago I came to America as an international student from China on a Harvard grant. Before coming I already completed my master’s degree in English in China. I arrived in America at the Logan airport. When I got into a taxi and greeted the driver with “How do you do?” the response from him was totally different from the standard “how do you do” I had learnt in China. He just looked at me with a puzzled face. When I got to the dorm, a fellow student helped bring my luggage to the room. When I said “Thank You”, he replied with ”Sure”, instead of “Not at all”, which I was taught to say in such situations. I realized the English I had learnt in China was dreadfully insufficient and that I was in urgent need to learn real life English. Upon finishing unpacking, I went to the common room to take a break. After some chitchats with fellow students there, I asked what was the most useful English expression I should know living in America. The answer was “Go fxxk yourself”, the reason being there were many “douche bags”.
Yes, I learnt the F word at Harvard on my first day in America. I knew then as well as I know now that my dorm mates were only kidding. And in the following 20 plus years, while I’ve heard of the F word many times, I’ve never been comfortable with this word and have never had a situation that warrants the use of this word.
Until now.
On October 3, the Foxcist News ran a Watters World segment, in which Jesse Watters went to Chinatown in lower Manhattan and did all he could to insult Chinese Americans on the street. He went so low as to ambush elderly man and woman who did not speak English and poke fun of them in a language they did not understand. It is so outrageous and despicable that even regular douche bags might flinch at this segment. No doubt this Watters idiot is not just a douche bag. He is a racist combo of douche bag and scumbag. After 20 years, I have finally had a situation that I wanted to yell at this double bag “Go fxxk yourself.” On the second thought, I changed my mind. For such a clown, to dirty my lips is not worth it. But I vote. And you know whom I will be voting for.
