This just breaks my heart. We can't fail the lives we hold in our hands. We can't fail ourselves.

On a summer day in 1994, my son walked into the house looking completely shattered. I asked what was wrong and he said, “Mom, I just heard Newt Gingrich on the car radio talk about his Contract for America.”  He paused and then said with so much quiet anguish,  “There is no place in his America for me. “

My brave child, born with forever live threatening health issues, the one who had been through so much, fought back against so much, had been made to feel abandoned, not worthy of respect and consideration by his country.  I will never forget that day, the sun shining through the window lighting the pain on my son’s face. 

It’s been eighteen years since my son felt cast off by his country.  In 2016, children and their families are waiting to see if they too will be abandoned and betrayed by the nation they love. They are waiting to see if they can stay in the place they call home.

We can not,  must not, fail them.  For their sakes and our own.  We can’t look back after November 8th and wonder what we could have done to prevent so much harm.

We must do everything possible to help GOTV.  Lives are in our hands.  The future of our country is in our hands.  Our votes could not be more important.  Do not allow anything to dissuade you from voting.  Far too much is at stake for cynicism, fear, or exhaustion from it all.  We must stand up for one another.  We must stand up for what is best in us all and remember that we are stronger together.
