The past two election cycles, the Kentucky Democratic Party has gotten its butt kicked. In both election cycles, the head of the ticket (Alison Lundergan Grimes in 2014; Jack Conway in 2015) tried to appear as centrist as possible, even attempting to out-Republican the Republicans. Both Grimes and Conway tried to distance themselves as far as they could from Obama, with Grimes unleashing anti-immigration ads and refusing to admit she voted for Obama and Conway filing lawsuits to "protect" Kentucky coal from Obama. Both lost horribly. Unfortunately, Kentucky Democratic Party leaders think an even further shift to the right is the answer. It's not.
