President Obama: When Do Those of Us on Social Security Get a "Fair Shake"?
Even though I applaud the president when he expresses the sentiment of giving every citizen a fair shake, you will notice how he doesn't mention those of us who are barely squeaking by on Social Security.
As a person with a disability who lives on Social Security, if you can call it living, I greatly resent the fact that President Obama is the only Democratic president who has ever allowed Social Security to be put on the bargaining table, when negotiating last year's budget.
The last year, in January 2015, we only got a 1.5% cost-of-living adjustment (a.k.a. COLA). This year, the Obama administration has told us that we will get no COLA at all. How are we getting a fair shake?
Last year, my earned income statement sent out by the Social Security Administration showed that I received a whopping total of $13,644 and some odd change. The income I receive is well below the poverty line of $15,000 per year.
