As many of you who read my diaries know, I care a great deal about my home state of Kansas. Most of my political life may be outside of Kansas, but it is my home, where my children go to school and where I live.
In 2014, I wrote about a giant problem facing the state of Kansas. As businesses closed and were seized for tax failure, the state of Kansas sold their assets off to the public. In the case of Bang!, Inc., it would be a giant sex toy sale. We thought: what a way to give back to my home state and, frankly, poke fun. I wrote articles about it here on Daily Kos, and more than one friend bought items through the auction so they could say that they had purchased Sam Brownback’s sex toys.
A year and a half later, though, you find that these items sit in your friends garage for too long and it just isn’t funny. But how do you find a home for giant, double-ended dildos, blow up dolls and vibrating prostate toys, furry handcuffs and other items?
Struggling to find them a home, several days ago we stumbled onto a reddit post noting that maybe — just maybe — they would be useful for the Oregon protesters who sat alone waiting out the government.
After agreeing to the idea, we were all very pleased with ourselves. What better way to honor these protesting patriots then to provide them Sex Toys that helped power the state governed by Governor Sam Brownback? It seemed fitting. Sex toys from a pro-Tea Party governor to tea-party patriots.
I was not prepared for how this would be received.
