According to this story in the Picayune Item, gun shop owner Jason McClemore, and his son, 17-year-old Jacob McClemore, were killed after an argument over a $25 bill for a gun repair escalated into a shootout. They were killed while exchanging fire with 29-year-old Michael McCool and his father, 52-year-old Audy McCool who themselves were wounded and were transported to nearby hospitals. Police at the time of this report hadn’t filed charges.
So who is the “Good Guy With A Gun” in the situation? Mississippi is one of the states with a “Stand Your Own Ground” defense. Here’s what I found on this Justia web site in regards to Mississippi use of defensive force law:
A person who uses defensive force shall be presumed to have reasonably feared imminent death or great bodily harm
and
A person who is not the initial aggressor and is not engaged in unlawful activity shall have no duty to retreat before using deadly force
Reads like either side can justifiably claim a reason for opening up on the other side. Two pair of armed angry people probably thinking that the other guy started it.
I doubt the Ammosexuals will even try to rationalize this. Just claim that it’s a tragedy that some are trying to politicize and we shouldn’t talk about it. But since they are always claiming that more guns would solve the problem it’s hard to square that with a shootout in a gun shop. How many more guns do you need?
I think the NRA should have a new motto: “We oil guns our guns with the tears of the grieving”
Not sure that this is directly related but am going to include it anyway. This cartoon was posted a couple days ago to Facebook by a Right-Winger I know. All the more sorrowful since I know him to be an otherwise intelligent person.
What passes for humorRemember that this was posted just a couple days after Martin Luther King Jr Day. It’s received thousands of likes and shares with one of the top comments referring to coon hunting. Have to wonder if it’s even possible to reason with such people.
