Pelosi Tells Serfs to STFU

So yesterday, Nancy Pelosi joined the legion of politicians, pundits and junkies who lecture us daily on how great everything is and that no change is necessary.

Specifically, Pelosi was addressing Sanders’ plan for a single-payer health care system, an idea she’s supported in the past but one she said is not politically viable.

“That’s not going to happen,” the California Democrat said. “I mean does anybody is this room think that we’re going to be discussing a single payer?” she added, looking around to her House Democratic leadership team. The leaders held a news conference upon their arrival in Baltimore before beginning their 2016 issues conference.

Read that paragraph again.

The Democrats are having an issues conference, and moving toward a sane health care policy isn’t even being considered agenda worthy.  I image they all had a hearty laugh after Pelosi said this and sipped some high end champagne.

“The fact is that Bernie Sanders is enlarging the universe of people paying attention to the election, and we hope that he will bring them to the polls in November to support the Democratic nominee,” Pelosi said.

Translation: Fuck you Bernie, but we want your votes.

“I’ve been for single payer for 30 years,” Pelosi said. “It is a very popular idea in our country, but we have made a decision about where we’re going on health care.”

And we’ve decided that we’d rather have CEOs profiting off your cancer treatment is the best way… to get more money for us.  The running thread lately among the pundit and neoliberal political class is that Single Payer is a fantastic idea — to talk about during a campaign.  It’s a laughable quixotic goal when there is a chance, no matter how small, of it being a reality.

If it’s not clear by now, this primary is vitally important to restore the Democratic Party legacy.  Or we could just let it stand as another arm (and wallet) of Big Business.

This isn’t “realism” or “pragmatism” this is corruption.
