Answer for Bernie Supporters, from a Clinton Supporter

There was yet another utterly disingenuous diary today with a Sanders supporter asking, ‘golly, gee, whiz, why on earth would ANYbody support Hillary Clinton when she’s such a soulless, dishonest, evil, status quo hypocrite — just because she has a VAGINA?!?’ Asked, of course, with a forefinger in a dimple and the other hand shining a halo. “Just asking,” we’re told, “honestly want to know.”

Yeah, right.

And then a funny thing happened. A whole bunch of Clinton supporters answered.

The response? I mean, other than a few Sanders supporters saying, “yeah, we’re honestly and fairly curious, too, why, and I say this with the utmost respect, any thinking person would support such a lying liar from lyinghood?” Crickets. When actually given answers, not a single response. Not a comment, not a recommendation, not a fucking word.

So, for the honest Sanders supporters who really don’t understand why thinking people would think Hillary Clinton has actually done something with her life, here are the responses that were posted.

I’ll start with one from the always marvelous Denise Oliver Velez who chose to defer to the President of the United States:

Next we heard from houyhnhnm, who said:

The watershed (no pun intended) event for me was the crisis in Flint. Hillary sent staffers. She appeared on Rachel’s show with a detailed analysis of what steps needed to be taken and what role the federal government should play. Two hours later Snyder agreed to ask for federal help.

Bernie couldn’t be distracted. A real revolutionary would have seized the time. Instead all we got was a call for Snyder to resign.  A day late and a dollar short.

You don’t like Hillary because she can pivot. For me, that a good thing. That’s what I want in a president. A rigid ideologue would be a disaster in the White House, in my opinion.

comet16 added:

Well, my personal favorite reason (out of many, btw) is that she was straight fire at the Benghazi witch trial last October.

You’re absolutely right that I want to be able to hear men saying “Madame President” to her in a year. Doesn’t make me less of a Democrat or my views as a citizen less valid than yours.

and from shantysue:

Alzheimer’s cure by 2025: personal to me; my father died of it.

Ending campus sexual assault, to include support to survivors: also personal to me.

Disability rights.

Early childhood education, including: to ensure that every 4-year-old in America has access to high-quality preschool in the next 10 years.

Her particular stance on gun violence prevention.

Her commitment to immigrants and reform.

Boosting federal investment in infrastructure, which is so sorely needed.

That’s a list of just a few of my hundreds of reasons for supporting her.

Iberian, a Sanders supporter, added:

First things first I thing she is a very capable, intelligent person that knows the in and outs of power and how to take advantage of it, I think she is much more progressive than people here give her credit for (not at Bernie’s level but more progressive than 75% Congress), that she would be effective as president in stopping the Republican advance and furthering many liberal causes. She also has been the target of republican hate and has fought it face on many times.

and

She has never been, at any point, against national health care (universal health care ). She is not in favor of single payer system. This has been intentionally blurred and lied about in this pages enough

From Spambolaya (love the user name, by the way), another Sanders supporter, said:

Hillary is very smart, very experienced, and very conversant with domestic and foreign affairs.  I supported her for Senate, and she made a great Secretary of State.  I am hoping Bernie wins the primary, but if Hillary wins I will vote for her, and I would be proud to have her as president.

khyber900 wrote:

She has been a progressive leader who gets things done. On health care, to child care, to education to fair taxation to civil rights to income growth, to she has helped lift the standard of living for all Americans dating back to her husband’s administration.  She is the most knowledgeable person in the country on the issues, and has developed a very internationalist and thoughtful foreign policy that will pick up Obama’s lead and push this country in the right direction.  It’s a no-brainer really. She’s the most qualified person to run for the office of the Presidency that I’ve seen in my lifetime.

and from SneakySnu:

Because of all the candidates, Democratic or Republican, she is the only one with a broad base of experience on domestic and foreign policy. Because in negotiations with Republicans in the House and Senate, she will win. Because the world is in too precarious a state to leave to a person who is fixed on a single issue. Because she has the energy and drive and desire to do the job.

claytonben wrote:

I like her toughness.  We're looking at four years of gridlock because of a gerrymandered house.  She knows what the Republican Party has become, and she can hold the line.

I don't care that she's taking corporate money.  You don't bring s knife to a gunfight.  Advertising works, and the Republicans are going flood the country with it.  Maybe Sanders could raise the half billion or so he'll need with small donations.  I'm not comfortable taking that chance.

Getting more people insured will happen as more Republican Governers accept the expanded coverage under the ACA.  Slowly, more groups will come under its umbrella.  I'm good with moving incrementally toward universal coverage and single payer because that is how change happens in this country.  The evolution of social security is an example.  The chaos caused by trying to redo the healthcare system again — twice in a decade — that just doesn't make sense to me.  I'd rather us move on trying to widen the circles of the uninsured under the ACA.

Clinton is rock solid on foreign affairs.

I read about her time on the Board of Walmart, in the New York Times.  Board of Walmart — dance with the devil, no question.  While she was there, she pushed for better environmental practices, more women in supervisor positions, and better conditions for employees.  She got results, too.  She is not perfect, but she's strong and smart, and I have no doubt she will move this country to the left.

So much demonization of her on this site.  I have been questioning seriously whether I really am a Democrat.  But Obama wholly and Clinton largely, whatever policy you consign these people to, it is my party.

anna shane said:

I love her, she shares my priorities, kids, families, peace, high skills, rewarding talent and hard work. not taking credit. She actually tried to stop the Iraq invasion, she cares, she represents the voiceless, the powerless, the weakest among us.  Nasty stuff is thrown at her and she lets it pass her by, she keeps her eye on what is important.

So if you’re a Sanders supporter and you’re genuinely confused about why anybody would support Secretary Clinton, perhaps this will help you understand why quite a lot of people see her as the most qualified candidate for the Presidency in a very long time.

And if you’re another one of those ridiculous and disingenuous Sanders supporters who thinks his ticket to the Wreck List and Daily Kos stardom is yet another trite, “yeah, but what has she ever actually done” diary, well, I hope somebody will bookmark this and point it out to you, so we don’t all have to do it yet again, for the umpteenth time.

And if you’re really curious, I mean genuinely curious, and not just using the popularity of Sanders on Daily Kos to cover for being a dick, try reading Lysis’ wonderful Hillary News & Views diaries, every weekday morning, right here on Daily Kos.
