As we head into Super Tuesday, the media and other naysayers would have us believe Bernie Sanders presidential hopes are all but over, done, “the revolution never came….” They will continue in their attempts to break our spirits, our hopes for a future to believe in, our desire for real, meaningful, substantial change that can set us on a path forward and put the power back where it belongs; We The People. For years now, we’ve been told that Hillary Clinton was inevitably the next Democratic nominee and that sentiment seemed to have stuck with most Democratic voters, myself included. I had no reason to be excited about the primary election season. I had already come to reluctantly accept our inevitable nominee because she is known by everyone and there didn’t seem to be any challengers with that kind of name recognition and influence in the Democratic party. It seemed the decision had been made for us, and the media made sure to drill that into our heads continuously. It was Hillary’s “turn” after the unforgettable Clinton/Obama battle of 2008… But then something happened… Bernie Sanders announced he was running for president. Suddenly I had reason to be excited about the primary election season. Long before he had announced, I had come across a video on YouTube of Bernie explaining the incredible wealth and power gap that has come to define our country as an Oligarchy instead of the Democracy we are supposed to be. I talked about that speech for months and made everyone around me listen to it. I was absolutely moved and stunned by his courage, his conviction, his honesty… his deep and obvious desire for justice in our economy. His announcement that he was running for president was like a dream come true. I was more excited than I was in 2007 when, for the first time in my life, I was wholeheartedly supportive of a politician, Barack Obama. Since Bernie announced his run for president, however, those of us supporting him have been mocked, ridiculed, laughed at and told to back the “electable” presumptive nominee, Hillary Clinton, long before even ONE vote had been cast. The whole establishment has been behind Hillary. They hid debates to avoid any challenge, they gave Bernie as little time as possible in the news cycles, they brushed him off as unrealistic... We didn’t listen to them then, and we shouldn’t listen to them now… Bernie Sanders started this campaign with literally 4% support nationally. He was virtually unknown outside of Vermont and the most ardent of political junkies among us. The Hillary is inevitable meme has continued as we are told Sanders could never, ever win the Democratic nomination and that America would never elect a “socialist” president in 2016. What has happened since, though, has been absolutely extraordinary. Bernie has awoken the young, the disenfranchised, the FUTURE of our nation. Bernie has proven that big, dirty, corporate money does NOT have to decide our elections. Bernie has courageously shown us that if we stand together we CAN be heard. We have a chance of a lifetime right now to elect a leader who truly has the interests of the 99% at heart and who will not be swayed by money or corporate greed and who will lead us in our battle to reclaim our democracy from the hands of the few who see us as nothing more than pawns in their game of power, control and financial dominance. Look how far we’ve come! We have come close to tied nationally. We are on the path to win several states tomorrow. We still have the momentum as long as we don’t let the media set OUR narrative and cloud OUR vision. Don’t let them break us. This is OUR time, OUR turn. Let’s take the power back! Let’s show the establishment that we are absolutely… DONE with being the silent many. Every voice rings out and carries. NO! We won’t just go back home… without you hearing... the sound of the many say…. WE ARE DONE!
Enough is Enough. Let’s do this! This battle is far from over. We absolutely MUST elect Bernie Sanders as our nominee and then as President of the United States in November. Our future depends on it. VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!
