Sanders: "You Are Looking at the Strongest Democratic Candidate"

Huffpo published a particularly interesting piece today called “Bernie Sanders Challenges The Democratic Party To Keep Its Soul”. In it, I think he answers a lot of questions which Sanders supporters (and others) have been asking themselves (and others), and which clarify his position in terms of Sanders’ role at this point in the nominating process:

His comments [at a rally in Springfield, Oregon] were in line with what he began to say late last month, which is that if he doesn’t win the nomination he still will try to “completely revitalize the Democratic Party.”

“Are we on the side of working people or big-money interests? Do we stand with the elderly, the sick and the poor or do we stand with Wall Street speculators and the insurance companies?” he asked Thursday. “You can’t be for Wall Street and the working people of this country. You cannot be for the drug companies and senior citizens and veterans. You cannot be on the side of workers and support those corporations that have thrown millions on the street.”

I think there he pretty much dispels any remaining doubts regarding whether he will run as an independent (I never thought he would).

And it would seem to me that that here he is firmly and formally announcing his bid to convert super-delegates to his side:

“I think Secretary Clinton and I agree that we must not have a Republican in the White House but I think the evidence is overwhelming that you are looking at the strongest Democratic candidate,” he said. “And the reason for that is that our campaign is able to reach beyond the Democratic base and win the support of millions of independents.”

I just love this guy. I think any other candidate at this point would be wheeling and dealing, bargaining with every last chip in order to promote their own career and interests. Rob Kall, the owner-editor of OpEdNews.com recently said that he thought Bernie was the greatest Presidential candidate in his lifetime (and Rob’s over 60).

I think I may agree.
