NBC News is reporting over just the last few minutes that the Obama administration is about to send out a letter to every public school district in the country that it must make accommodations to allow students to use the bathroom that matches their gender identity.
While the ruling and letter will not necessarily be a reflection of federal law, it is being issued under Department of Education policy, and schools who refuse to comply could face lawsuits and a loss of funding.
This move comes in the middle of the heated contention between the DOJ and the state of North Carolina over it’s discriminatory bathroom law. I can only see this as a sign that the administration is secure in it’s stance, and is willing to make a show of strength to double down on it’s interpretation. I can already hear the squeals of protests coming from the GOP pigpen over this decision. It will be interesting to watch the Fox talking heads exploding live on camera, and the spluttering screams of righteous outrage from Republican congress critters over this newest assault on our liberties to discriminate.
