Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Tuesday defended Bernie Sanders, saying the media should cut the Democratic presidential candidate some slack.    "I think we should just kind of lay off Bernie Sanders a little bit," Reid told reporters after being asked whether he was concerned about Sanders’s "tenuous loyalty" to the Democratic Party.  Sanders has come under fire from some party officials, who argue he is hurting front-runner Hillary Clinton's chances in the general election by continuing to campaign aggressively against her.  Reid has generally refused to criticize Sanders, telling reporters earlier this year that he was fine with the Vermont senator staying in the presidential race until the Democratic National Convention in July in Philadelphia.  He added Tuesday that Sanders is a "good person," saying "I have no criticism of Bernie at this stage."...

...Reid added Tuesday that Sanders has "done some really good things."  "The party has changed during his tenure here, and we'll see what happens. I think Bernie's a good man ... and I think everything will work out well," he said…

Apparently, someone wasn’t paying attention (hopefully, that’s the case), because this is one of the nastiest things I’ve read about Sanders that’s ever been published at The Hill. (I’m just excerpting the first few paragraphs. They don’t even begin to convey the malicious and hateful sentiments and tone of the author. You’ll have to read the entire piece to understand what I’m saying.)

Knowing it’s lost electorally, the Bernie Sanders campaign is now pushing for a superdelegate coup, one that would discard the will of the Democratic primary electorate in favor of an unearned coronation. Whether willfully or not, such a strategy is not just an affront to basic democratic principles, it would also serve to disenfranchise the growth demographics powering the modern Democratic Party.

“We can argue about the merits of having superdelegates, but we do have them,” said Sanders campaign manager Jeff Weaver. “And if their role is just to rubber-stamp the pledged delegate count, then they really aren’t needed, right? So they’re supposed to exercise independent judgment about who they think can lead the party forward to victory.”

That is quite the turnaround from a few months ago, when Sanders and his surrogates were railing against the superdelegate system as an undemocratic affront to the will of the voters. And they’d be right — if, that is, those superdelegates had shown any willingness to subvert the will of the voters, something they didn’t do in 2008 when the insurgent Barack Obama won the nomination and certainly won’t do this year. The nominating process is undeniably in need of reform, but that doesn’t justify Sanders’s hypocrisy in siding with superdelegates over his newly adopted party’s voters. 

But aside from the merits, let’s examine what such a superdelegate coup would mean. 

Bernie Sanders, a self-avowed democratic socialist, would toss aside the “democratic” part of his self-identification, becoming an old-school autocratic socialist. It’s breathtaking how nonchalantly the presidential contender and his campaign can talk about subverting the democratic will of the voters, as if his purer ideology excused all excesses...

And, people wonder why I still bother blogging here? Obviously, after seeing all the crap being spewed against Sanders, elsewhere online and in the MSM, it’s nice to know that whomever wrote that hateful turd is unaware that there’s a community like Daily Kos where Clinton and Sanders supporters may gather in friendship and harmony and communicate with one another like adults.
