Dear Gun Assholes,
I am just writing to let you know that your ploys are obvious. Everyone knows them, and don’t believe them anymore.
When you say that the nation needs time to grieve after the latest mass shooting, we know you are just trying to perpetually suppress any debate—cause there is barely a day in the US without a mass shooting. We are going to talk about guns whenever the fuck we like, and it is you, not us, who is using the deaths of innocents to promote your gun fetish. We know what you are doing, you are obvious.
When you appropriate the language of civil rights, we know damn well that you are not a persecuted minority—you are a coddled minority, you are a privileged minority. We, the majority, no longer give a shit about your wildly implausible readings of the second amendment or your small-dick persecution complex. We know what you are doing, you are obvious.
When you get on websites and scream about technical definitions of “assault weapons”, blatantly bullshit statistics about personal defense, racist screeds about Chicago, and whatever else—we know its simply a distraction, a strategy of throwing sand in everyone’s face to prevent real discussion of gun control. We know what you are doing, you are obvious.
When you say the only solution to the gun problem in America is “resolving poverty” or “climate change” or the “legalizing all drugs”, we know you are intentionally choosing some action that you know will not happen, merely to seem like you want to do something. We know you are only saying these things to protect your gun rights, and that not even you believe the thing you are saying must be done will ever be done. We know what you are doing, you are obvious.
When you say that there is no way to end the slaughter of Americans by guns, that its just the way it is—we know that the US is the only peer nation in the world where this happens. It is not normal, it is preventable. We know that you know that, and we know that you value your weapon more than the tens of thousands of people who are killed by guns in the US every year. We know what you are doing, you are obvious.
Today, a few more people came out for gun control, tomorrow a few more will. Soon more and more gun control measures will become law...then some more. Today, right now, is the high water mark for gun assholes. It will never be better for gun assholes than today. You can either help write the new gun control measures, to make them effective and bring down the death rate, or we will do it for you. But gun control is coming, and we do not care about what bullshit argument you mistakenly think will preserve your guns for another week, or year, or decade. You will lose your guns, and everyday the movement to take them gets stronger.
