several quick reactions at the end of the night

First, well before we got to Sanders most of the people being obnoxious had let go of it.  Still, MSNBC talks to three delegates afterward and all 3 are still rejecting Clinton.  That seems very much unrepresentative of what happened during the evening, even among Sanders delegates who started opposed to Clinton.

Second, the overall structure of the evening was superb, and provided a lot of representation of the Bernie side of the equation — the woman from Rules, Grijalva, Merkley, Ellison.

Third , there were some brilliant moments in some of the earlier speeches. I saw it all because I watched on C-Span until after Bernie finished.  If you did not see the woman in the wheelchair, if you did not see the mother daughter pair, if you did not see the two Latino sisters who are in the House, if you did not see all of the early speaker you missed how well organized this convention was.

Fourth — there is no doubt the best speech of the night was by Michelle Obama.  But give full credit to Cory Booker for an impassioned speech that set the stage for her.

Warren clearly got under the skin of Trump.  She was effective.

Bernie did what he had to.

But as I feared, there were still a few people from the Sanders side being obnoxious throughout the evening.

I see that Brainwrap has deleted his earlier diary that was critical.  I am not going to delete mine because it is an accurate portrayal of what was happening early on.

My sense is that, disagreeing with Hugh Hewitt (a right-wing hack who after having totally dissed Trump got on board his bandwagon), I do NOT think lasting damage was done.

I listened to Nicole Wallace and Steve Schmidt basically say this first night for the Dems was better than any night for the Repubs.  And we heard repeated jokes about perhaps Michelle’s speech appearing in a future Republican convention- when the press is dissing you like that, you have a problem.

As I said, a preliminary reaction.  Nothing profound.

We have no idea what next Assang will leak in his continued vendetta against HRC and Loretta Lynch.  But as of right now I think any “bounce” that Trump might have gotten from his convention is gone.

And we still have three more days, with two Presidents, our VP Nominee and our Presidential nominee still to come.

Or as James Brown used to put it
