Mike Pence spent the debate running from Donald Trump, blatantly lying about anything offensive Trump has ever said, and even openly contradicting Trump on Russia and Vladimir Putin. He wasn’t making the case for Trump to be president, he was launching his own 2020 presidential campaign. But narcissistic idiot that he is, Trump thought Pence was helping him.
xMike Pence won big. We should all be proud of Mike!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 5, 2016Just don’t let him know what Pence was really up to, because that might lead to a late night Twitter storm. But Trump isn't smart enough to understand what really happened, just as he isn't smart enough to understand that Putin doesn't respect him but sees him as a witless fool.
xMike Pence lowkey scammed the Trump campaign
— Vann R. Newkirk II (@fivefifths) October 5, 2016 xA few quick thoughts: Kaine is a better surrogate than Pence; Pence won't defend Trump; debate will have no effect on the race
— Michael Cohen (@speechboy71) October 5, 2016 xI can only think of one example, when Pence defended Trump reducing his tax burden https://t.co/uHGcns4lPS
— Chris Megerian (@ChrisMegerian) October 5, 2016 xMike Pence tried to gaslight the American people about his running mate. https://t.co/oFl5OTBoa0pic.twitter.com/f5Ols5ud8O
— New Republic (@NewRepublic) October 5, 2016 xPence calls Putin "small and bullying." His running mate on the other hand... pic.twitter.com/ILVXucSxPv
— Sopan Deb (@SopanDeb) October 5, 2016 xVery, very off message https://t.co/3BMHQSpDIi
— Michael Cohen (@speechboy71) October 5, 2016 xPence laughs dismissively every time Kaine quotes an outrageous Trump quote. It's increasingly clear he just doesn't want to defend Trump.
— Mo Elleithee (@MoElleithee) October 5, 2016 xThe pattern in this debate: Governor Pence is pretending that Trump's statements and policies don't exist, rather than defending them.
— Mike Schmidt (@mikereedschmidt) October 5, 2016 x"Whether Pence made tacit decision to abandon his boss or simply wasn't up to the challenge I don't know." https://t.co/7bwM6XgYQq#VPDebate
— America's Voice (@AmericasVoice) October 5, 2016 xNew drinking game: drink every time Pence scoffs at something that Trump actually said. #VPDebate
— Howard Eissenstat (@heissenstat) October 5, 2016 xHas Pence gone rogue on policy re: Syria, Russia?
— Joan Walsh (@joanwalsh) October 5, 2016 xIt was shocking how much Pence was allowed to lie by the moderator. It was shocking how much he lied, period.
— Matt O'Brien (@ObsoleteDogma) October 5, 2016 xPence: I'll defend anything Trump saidKaine: OK, go for itPence: He didn't say any of the stuff he said. See? Done.
— Alex Sherman (@sherman4949) October 5, 2016 xSecond debate in a row where Trump can complain of a Mike that wasn't working for him.
— Mike Gehrke (@mikegehrke) October 5, 2016 xPence’s strategy: he couldn’t sell Trump, so he didn’t. https://t.co/1KxOiQcRu5
— Ezra Klein (@ezraklein) October 5, 2016 x2020 PRIMARY DEBATE MODERATOR: Governor Pence, you were Donald Trump's running mate in 2016...PENCE: *shakes head emphatically*
— Angus Johnston (@studentactivism) October 5, 2016 xTonight is a debate between Pence and Trump. Perhaps they should get their own failed houses in order before they come asking for our votes.
— John Dingell (@JohnDingell) October 5, 2016 xMike Pence will solidly win this debate in his closing remarks, when he flatly denies that Donald Trump is running for president.
— James Poniewozik (@poniewozik) October 5, 2016 xA+ for style though. https://t.co/TKz0pLxZ8i
— Adam Smith (@asmith83) October 5, 2016 xpence: i love and support my running mate, who is definitely a real presidential fellowkaine: your running mate is donald trumppence: nope
— Alexandra Petri (@petridishes) October 5, 2016 x... that Pence lied not only about Trump, about Clinton & about THINGS HE HAS ACTUALLY SAID seems more important than "how he came across"
— Michael Cohen (@speechboy71) October 5, 2016 xAll you need to know about the VP debate. pic.twitter.com/94Ah9QR3bm
— Zachary Fedell (@zatchry) October 5, 2016And yeah, there was this.
xSincere gasps at @HFA HQ as Pence said "you whipped out that Mexican thing again." Astonishing
